New York City
On Friday, October 24, 2025, Council Member Tiffany Cabán sent a letter signed by 70+ local elected officials from across the country to WNBA Commissioner Engelbert and NBA Commissioner Silver regarding the ongoing negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the players’ union, the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA). The full copy of the letter and list of signatories can be found HERE.
Council Member Cabán shared the following statement about why she led the process of writing and recruiting signatories from around the country for this letter:
“Everything I do is about fighting inequity and building worker power is critical in that fight. I recently passed pay equity laws that follow the cutting-edge blueprints set by the European Union and the UK to close gender wage gaps and bring pay equity out of the shadows. I have teamed up with the Teamsters to hold Amazon and other warehouse and delivery companies accountable through the Delivery Protection Act. And now I am standing with the WNBPA as they fight for fair pay and respect. I am proud to join local elected officials from across the country in support of the WNBPA’s efforts, because every worker deserves good-faith bargaining and a fair share of the success they create.”
