Tiffany Cabán Responds to ICE Agents Assaulting Journalists at 26 Federal Plaza

New York City

ICE agents assaulted amNewYork’s Dean Moses and L. Vural Elibol of the Anadolu Agency this morning as they were documenting the ongoing arrests of individuals attending immigration court proceedings at 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan. In response, Council Member Tiffany Cabán released the following statement:

“Four days ago, viral press coverage of an ICE agent assaulting a woman outside of an immigration courtroom got that agent very briefly suspended. Today, in an act of retaliation or just brute repression, ICE officers attacked two journalists. One of them had to be taken to a hospital on a stretcher by EMS. If it was not clear enough already: ICE is violent. ICE is a threat to freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and to our democracy. ICE is a tool of fascism. ICE separates families, assaults journalists, disappears neighbors, deports children, ignores court orders, and makes us all less safe.”
