Tiffany Cabán Responds to Eric Adams’ Last Ditch Attempts to Curry Favor with the Trump Administration by Throwing Trans Kids Under the Bus

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, Eric Adams ended unrelated rants at press conferences by spreading hateful misinformation about transgender kids in schools and saying that he wants to violate New York State human rights law and prevent kids from using the bathrooms intended for their gender. 

In response, Council Member Tiffany Cabán, Co-Chair of the New York City Council LGBTQIA+ Caucus, released the following statement:  

“Eric Adams wants to violate New York State human rights law. Luckily, it is not in his power to do so. Students must be allowed to use the bathrooms that correspond with their gender. New York will continue to prioritize student health and safety over hateful lies about the trans community.

Trump and his allies are hellbent on spreading lies and scapegoating the transgender community. We will not allow Eric Adams to echo rightwing hate without pushback. We will always support the transgender community. We will always support our children.

To anyone who is considering throwing our LGBTQIA+ community under the bus: grow a spine. To anyone who wants to ruin the lives of our transgender neighbors and loved ones, take away their access to healthcare, blame them for society’s ills, and take away their rights: grow a heart. To Eric Adams: transphobia has no place in our city and we look forward to you and your bigotry leaving Gracie Mansion.”
